One Response to Atharva Kharkar, an aspiring disciple of Jayapataka Swami, Passed Away

  1. Sangita Devi Dasi says:

    Peaceful , Krishna Conscious departure

Atharva Kharkar was a great film maker and an ardent devotee of the Lord. He was from the USA and was visiting Mayapur during his summer break and wanted to film the Holy Dhama, capture it’s beauty and soak in it’s spiritual culture. While in Mayapur, apart from filming, he attended Mangala Arotika everyday, interacted with devotees and attended Jayapataka Swami’s classes. In a very short time He won the hearts of anyone who interacted with him. He was exceptionally talented and truly lived Srila Prabhupada’s concept of ‘Simple living and High thinking’. Having only three pairs of clothes and sleeping on the floor are some examples of his simplicity. A month into His stay, he started showing symptoms of sickness and was diagnosed with Leukemia. He was flown back to the United States and was cared for by His loving family and the devotees.

Soon after, he received chemotherapy. While in the hospital, he was regularly visited by devotees who read Srimad Bhagavatam to Him. He listened with keen interest and was not complaining of pain or any inconvenience, although he was physically undergoing much difficulty. He was worshiping Lord Nrsimhadeva.

Jayapataka Swami remarked about his film making. “He has art in His hands. He is a very good film maker. Of all the films people took of me, Atharva’s is my favorite.” He made films to show people the reality of life in the light of the Vedas and had a deep desire to make many more.

Atharva Prabhu, left this world at the tender age of 20. His passing away, however, was in Krishna consciousness and his last days were spent in the Holy Dhama which he carried with Him in his heart. Jayapataka Swami, his Guru Maharaja, described His passing away, “He was very peaceful, in consciousness of Krishna Balarama. He heard the Hare Krishna chanting. “All of you please pray for him that he has an auspicious travel to Krishna”, he added.
