The Three Signs Of Lord Jagannath And The Missing Key
By Jim Girouard
Boston, MA (U.S.A.)
During the month of September 2017 I lost my car key and couldn’t find it after looking everywhere. This wasn’t a big problem because I had taken precautions previously and had several copies made in case something like this happened. Then I came across a seminar at the Hare Krishna temple in Boston on hospice care for elderly devotees to assist them with an easier transition at the time of their passing. When I first walked into the room there were three Jagannath paintings on the wall I had never seen before. That was the first sign.
The person hosting the seminar told a Prabhupad quote. Prabhupad said at one time that anyone who sees Lord Jagannath during the ceremonial parade would go back to Godhead. That was the second sign. I brought a framed sketch of Giriraj with me to donate to the Boston temple and presented it to the temple president. At that moment a mataji stepped forward and told the temple president that I had given her a sketch of Lord Jagannath some years earlier. That was the third sign. Something was triggered in my subconscious mind by her saying that. I didn’t realize the significance of any of this until returning home from an hour and a half ride. Little by little an idea started to form in my mind of small hand painted Jagannath deities. I had already experimented with different ideas using wood and paint and creating deity images by hand but this was not my idea….it was Lord Jagannath’s idea implanted into my subconscious by a mataji, a temple president, the three paintings on the wall, and a quote by Prabhupad . I would have never thought of that idea on my own.
I immediately got to work in my thinking mind all the various details of how to arrange the materials and tools needed to carry out this mission…the type of wood…the paint…the brushes..the size and dimensions and so on. The idea was perfect. It could be devotional service to Lord Jagannath which is completely resonant with my skills and know how. I had been looking for an idea like this for several years. The whole time I was visualizing all these thoughts and ideas in my mind, I went into the laundry basket which had t shirts in it. Sitting on the bottom of the laundry basket was my car key. If I had found the car key at any other time it would have had little or no significance but it happened at the exact moment I was forming the beginnings of an idea to create these small Jagannath deities. A key opens up a door….in this case it was an open door to a new devotional creative service and the beauty of it was that it had all the earmarks of coming directly from Lord Jagannath Himself and not from my own thoughts.
In 2012 I did a reading and asked the question where is the buried treasure ? I was picturing a buried treasure chest of gold and silver coins. The result of that reading was stunning….here’s what it said : Radha and Krishna are in the spiritual world and they give us the heavenly key to understand love and devotion. So as there are physical keys to open physical doors…there are also spiritual keys to open spiritual doors.
I decided to seek out further insights and inspiration and do a reading on the idea of making small hand painted deities. So I asked Lord Jagannath to enter into the lettered dice and send a divine message. Instead of Jagannath coming through it was Lord Baladev. Here’s the reading :
Lord Baladev is sending codes written in the letter sequence.
Be the taker of a vow to be true in your devotion of creations of the three transcendental Deities.
Coloring them is controlled through divine intervention in the collective mind of Lord Vishnu.
Be the transcendental hunter in a broken world of thievery and deceit.
Think of me as a returned savior here to create a better world of caregivers for the less fortunate devotees struggling in the material world who need to die without their dignities taken from them at the time they are at death’s door.
Be the caregiver who gives them this key of spiritual freedom.
